VAKYA VRTTI (In-person and Online)
Wednesdays 7 – 8:15 PM
Vakya Vritti is a brief, powerful text by Adi Guru Sankaracharya that teaches the precise method to unlock the meaning of the essential Upanishadic teachings, particularly of the statement “tat tvam asi” (“That thou art”). Its core teaching is that you, the individual (jiva), are non-different from the supreme reality (Brahman). It helps the aspirant grasp this universal equation of oneness by looking beyond the surface meanings of the words “thou” (your body-mind) and “that” (a distant cosmic principle).

Bhagavad Gita
(In-Person and online)
Sundays 8 to 9:15 AM
The Bhagavad Gita is a unique scripture, which teaches both yoga and Vedanta. It offers guidance for living a balanced life while performing our duties and facing all types of situations, and it helps one gain a clear understanding of his or her own Self, the limitless consciousness.
We continue our “deep-dive” into these universal and timeless teachings and their application in and implications for our lives. Until now, we’ve studied the nature of the individual and the scope of self-effort. In November 2025 we will commence studying chapter 9; this and the following chapters highlight the nature of the macrocosm, how to meditate on and worship Ishvara or God, and the importance of self-surrender.

Retreat Day – being in the present
February 2026 (date to be determined)
A wonderful opportunity for retreating from our daily activities and lives and immersing in reflective practices. The program is designed to refresh body and mind and lend inspiration to the spirit.
The program will focus on being in the present, which is essential for one and all to cultivate. Most of the time our attention is elsewhere and not with the task, person, or object just in front of us. Cultivating this type of attentiveness reduces worry and stress, helps find satisfaction and contentment in simple things, and opens the door to a clearer and deeper understanding of oneself.
Two main aspects of being present will be discussed – attentiveness and Sakshi Bhav (witnessing awareness). In the first, one cultivates being attentive or mindful, through which one remains more in the present and is less swayed by past events and expectations for the future. The second entails changing one’s perspective to that of the Sakshi or constant witnessing awareness, which is the same in and through all experiences. The more one’s perspective shifts, the more one understands the absolute present, which is not affected by the flow of time.
